Dan Nicholas park it the spot for family fun, this 425-acre park is located 8 miles southeast of Salisbury.

What to bring: Tent, sleeping bag, blankets, hiking shoes, hot weather clothing & ALSO cold weather clothing, coats, (it can get pretty chilly at night), rain jacket/poncho etc.., day pack, head lamp or flash light, snacks, fillable water bottle, propane lantern, money for concessions & gift stores, first aid kit. Approx $12.00 various Park activities and a well-stocked concession stand. There are combo tickets for $10.00 that include: Train ride, Carousel, Gem Mine & Mini golf.
Group Campground: Limited Space “First come First Serve”: The group site holds 100 people max ($6.00 per person weekend) no showers. Troop 942 will have 50-60 people. So group camping is first come first serve upon receipt of Camp registration forms. The overflow plan would have to be the 70 RV site campground (call (704) 216-7808) which costs more ($19.00 to $24.00 at 6 persons per site $8.00 per person weekend) but you would have showers. Their 6 cabins are another option ($47.00 for four people $23.50 per person weekend).
What does it cost: estimate for troops to plan by. $20.00 per person. ($6.00 camping fee, Breakfasts, & Saturday supper)
Troop Master/Ranger responsibility: Send Registration form to firstname.lastname@example.org , Troops are responsible for paying the Camping fee at the park, responsible meal planning with their troops, and troops will pay for their park activities at the park. There are no group ticket discounts available.

Our Aquarium, courtesy of Cheerwine, includes many varieties of fish shown in a beautifully simulated habitat. This building also includes the Nature Center featuring many species of snakes, lizards and alligators.

Come enjoy the music, lights and magic of this beautiful carousel! “Haden’s Carousel” was given to Dan Nicholas Park in memory of Haden Holmes Hurley (1936-96) by his wife Jennifer and brothers Jim and Gordon. The Hurley family published the Post from 1912-97.

Take a step back in time at our gem mine. We have four flumes for you to try your luck. You could find a number of color gemstones. All ages love to pan for treasures. Wash the stones from your bucket at the flume line using the screen provided. When the stones are wet, you’ll discover Earth’s treasures.
When you finish panning, go by the gem mine shack and have your stones identified by one of our experienced rock hounds. Let us cut your stones and create a custom piece of jewelry! We sell fine jewelry, fun jewelry and novelties for all ages.
Basic Geology Classes OR a simple “How To” class for younger children, can be scheduled for groups of 10 or more at no extra charge. Contact us to schedule an appointment time.
